Approximate depth of water at the 'front' crossing and current weather for Eugene, OR.

The crossing point by the picnic tables is the primary (or 'front') crossing point to the island. The depth of the water at the crossing at this time of the year is similar to the depth of the Coast fork of the Willamette as measured at the river gage at Goshen.

  • Over 2.5 feet on the river chart (real time information at the Goshen gage station) would be too dangerous to wade because of the river's current and the slippery rocks in the river at the crossing.
  • Between 2.5 and 1.5 feet, the crossing is wadable but you will still have a strong current and slippery rocks to navigate. Too dangerous for children to cross.
  • Less than 1.5 feet, the crossing is fairly easy.
